I have a 4GB Nano, I checked out a book on tape from the libary downloaded it to iTunes then synced it to my Nano and listened to the book. Then I deleted the book from iTunes, loaded another book to iTunes and synced again, this time the new book did not upload and the old book is still on my Nano. What did I do wrong and how can I get my Nano to recognize the new book and delete the old book?

Make sure to have the tracks selected to import or deselected to remove.

When you rip audio books from CD they are not recognized as an "audio book" file in iTunes. Since they're considered regular audio by iTunes you can treat them like any other audio track. One trick is to group them into a playlist and add/delete them that way. Here's a link to a pretty decent write-up on the subject by Kirk McElhearn. CNet Australia also has a decent step-by-step with screen shots.
