Can I listen to audiobooks on my Android?
I'm sure there must be a way to do this, but I can't figure it out. How do I listen to audiobooks on my Android?

Short answer is yes.
Long answer has a few caveats. http://www.androlib....px?r=audiobooks This url will show you all the audio-books and players found on AndroLib.com which is the best way to research apps, in my opinion. I tested a few of these apps for the upcoming book that Brian Sawyer and I are writing, and I found that Astro Player Beta was the best. Again, this is a subjective statement. Here is a quick view of this app playing all types media found on my SD Card. Have fun and enjoy this app. ![]()

Thanks, Michael. I'll take a look but I probably should have been more specific. I'm an audible.com member and I believe the audio books I download are in a proprietary format. I'd love to be able to play and listen to them on my Android but audible.com doesn't (yet?) support Android. Is there any other player I can use? I'll take a look at the app you wrote about.

Amazingly, though Audible offers an iPhone app and Blackberry support, it has no Android app and has not provided any details on when they might have one. In message boards on the topic, I've seen this email response from Audible a few times:
Quote Thank you for contacting Audible. I understand that you are inquiring as to when Audible will support the Android OS. Audible does not have any estimated time as to when or if we will be compatible with the OS, but it is an item that we are looking into. In addition, Audible understands that there are many loyal customers such as yourself now using or considering to purchase an Android mobile device, so we do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. If there is anything else that I can assist you with, please let me know. But I've also seen a job listing that might suggest they're looking into it. In the meantime, I've seen some people using Tune4Mac to remove Audible DRM, but that's clearly a hack that I hope Audible makes a move to remedy soon.
Audible just released an open beta for their Android app. It's not in the Market, but you can download it here:

The Audible.com Android app is one area where Android eclipses iTunes. But not for long. It seems they're also working on an iPhone version. If you're looking for a good audiobook UI for the iPhone, check out Bookmark from DockMarket.

BrianS-thank you! i have been searching the net and couldn't find that bar code anywhere until I came across your post. Audible now succesfully installed on my andriod phone. Thank you:)
Most of the Audio books are in the Mp3 format.
Android phones handles Mp3 very efficiently. You can definitely listen audio-books on Android.
