Windows 7 Keyboard Shortcuts

Rememeber the first time you used a keyboard shortcut? Weren't you stoked? A small twiddle of the keys and you instantly increased your productivity by a factor of ten. You went from n00b to savvy user in a split second. Heck, a moment before you didn't even know what savvy meant! All of a sudden you're using fancy terms like "Alt+Tab" and "Control+Alt+Delete". Those sure were the days, huh? Well, get ready to relive that feeling once again. In this table from Windows® 7 Resource Kit, you'll learn about all the new keyboard shortcuts in Windows 7.


To reduce the time required to complete common tasks, Windows 7 supports the keyboard shortcuts listed in Table 1.2.

Table 1.2. New Windows 7 Keyboard Shortcuts

KEYBOARD SHORTCUT

ACTION

Attached Image+up arrow

Maximizes the current window.

Attached Image+down arrow

Restores or minimizes the current window.

Attached Image+left arrow

Snaps the current window to the left half of your screen.

Attached Image+right arrow

Snaps the current window to the right half of your screen.

Attached Image+Shift+left arrow

Moves the current windows to the left screen when running dual monitors.

Attached Image+Shift+right arrow

Moves the current windows to the right screen when running dual monitors.

Attached Image+Home

Minimizes or restores all but the current window.

Attached Image+T

Focuses on the taskbar so you can then use the arrow keys and Enter to select an item.

Pressing this shortcut again will cycle through items.

Windows Key+Shift+T cycles backward.

Attached Image+Tab

Cycles through your open applications in 3D.

Alt+Tab

Cycles through your open applications in 2D.

Attached Image+spacebar (hold keys)

Peeks at the desktop.

Attached Image+D

Shows the desktop.

Attached Image+M

Minimizes the current windows.

Attached Image+G

Brings your gadgets to the top of your applications.

Attached Image+P

Shows presentation and external display options.

Attached Image+U

Opens the Ease Of Access Center.

Attached Image+X

Opens the Mobility Center, enabling quick access to features like WiFi.

Attached Image+[a number key 1–5]

Starts the program from the taskbar that corresponds to that number key.

For example, pressing +1 starts the first application on the taskbar.

Attached Image++

Zooms in.

Attached Image+-

Zooms out.

Attached Image+L

Locks your PC back to the logon screen.
