Google's URL shortener goo.gl will generate a QR code if you append .qr to any URL. The only bummer thing about this is that you can't just go to goo.gl and create a shortened URL. Apparently the goo.gl shortener is only available for Google products and is not for broader consumer use.

Fortunately there are easy ways around this little hurdle. If you use Firefox, you can install an add-on such as goo.gl lite 1.3. This add-on will create a goo.gl URL for the page you're currently visiting and copy it to the clipboard. Just open a new tab and paste the URL into the address bar, append .qr to the end of the URL, and hit enter. Google will return a QR code of your URL in the browser window.

Example:

http://goo.gl/rP1s.qr
