Home WIFI requires reentering my network name and password istead of auto entry

I found a couple posts searching for "iphone not saving wireless authentication."

One says you should try putting a dollar sign in front of your password, though that seems odd to me.

the final post says to have you iPhone forget the network, then enter it as an "other" network from the Settings, manually filling in the SSID (the network name) and choosing the security you've set up on your wireless router.

I had the same problem as you, my husband tried to fix it but he could not make it work. We bought another router after we remodeled the house, we did not like the idea about remodeling an old home but some repairs were needed. We did not have any problems with the router so far, hope it will last long.
