I would like to state first off that I am not a computer person. I am, however, adaptable and when confronted with the opportunity to better myself at my job I volunteered to create a database for the security company I work for. My boss bought "The Missing Manual" for Access 2007 and from scratch I created a reasonably well working databases over countless hours of reading and learning and testing. So now, that the database has been approved for operation, I have run into a snafu. The computer system we work from goes through a server and has multiple profiles set up on the computer, one for each security officer. For some odd reason, one of the security officers cannot properly access the form I created for the database. An error message appears which states that the form is in "read only" and that he has to save a copy to edit a blank form. IF he doesn't save a copy the only thing displayed on the form is the heading. IF he does save the form, then two new records are created in the database. One of the records is blank and separate from the blank one he is able to fill in. This really throws off the I.D. numbers, as I have to go back and delete the unused record. The I.D.'s are numerically sequential and a missing I.D. number will throw the entire Database into chaos.

How can I fix this issue? Are there any Access demi-gods floating around out there who can assist my quandry?

Hello.

I am working with the author of this book to find an answer to your question. First, we have a couple of questions for you:

1. Could you give us the full wording of the error message you're getting?

2. Are you using a split database?

3. Are you trying to open the form in Design Mode?
