What is a good ebook conversion tool?
I have many ebooks I have downloaded over the years from different sources, and in different formats. I'd like to be able to read them all on my portable device, and wonder if converting these ebook files is the way to go, or having different applications to read the different formats is better.
There are aspects of each reader's app that I like, and dislike, and in the interest of stream-lining my suite of apps on my device, I'd like to read all my books in one application. So now I need to be able to convert different formats to the format that looks best on the application I choose, What are the best ebook conversion tools out there for .pdf .epub, .apk, .mobi, and daisy. (Software, Shareware, Freeware?) What are the rules for converting formats? If I own a Kindle ebook, am I not allowed legally to convert it to a format that another reader can read? What about converting a PDF file to epub? You may ask me what specific reader I am using, and what app I am using, but I hope to get answers for everyone to use, not just my specific reader/app. The simple question is; What converter do you use, and what do you like/dislike about it? 6 Replies
Would be good to note that Pages now can export into epub, just something tb are in mind when you want to create an epub as opposed to converting

pdfforge PDF Creator (Freeware, Windows): It helps me convert various documents(html,text.word/ppt) to PDF, then i can read it on my Android smart phohe with pdf reading app.
Wondershare PDF to EPUB converter (Shareware, Windows and Mac): It can convert PDF/Mobi/PRC/Word to more ereader friendly epub, which i can read it on my ipad, although Apple claims ipad can read PDFs, some of the PDF still can't be read on my iPad and epub is the best ebook format for ios devices.
What I usually use is enolsoft PDF tools, as I got some of them for my Mac ebooks convertings from the Mac App store.
Like the PDF magic very much: http://itunes.apple....449817098?mt=12
I'll second truenorthern's Calibre suggestion. I use it regularly to convert books for my Kindle. I can set it to run a few conversions as a batch, then when it's all done it will send them to my device via my Kindle email address. It's compatible with a wide range of readers, including all the major ones.
As well as the conversion capability, Calibre has the added feature of auto-fetching news content from hundreds of sources and sending to your device in the right format - it can be set to do this every morning so that your news is ready to read on your commute, for example. Best of all, Calibre is free! |
