Just bought a new iPad and am astounded to learn that there it appears that I cannot text or receive text messages.
Can you please tell me if you CAN text with the iPad.
If not, are there any add on aps that can allow me to text? If so, what do you recommend.

How Can I Text Message on my iPad5 Replies
I use Google Voice. It takes a bit of time to set up, but it works.
Basically, you get a new phone number that forwards to your phone(s). Text messages appear in your Google Voice inbox, and are sent to you by email. You can send text messages by email as well. You can send and receive calls from your computer or phones. To find our more, go to voice.google.com.

Because Google Voice is cross-platform, you're also not tied to JUST the iPad when you sign up. You can SMS from computers, iPhones, Android phones and maybe even Blackberry's (just not sure on that one).
