How to Load an O'Reilly APK to your Android phone
Lots of folks have been asking us for some additional assistance on installing the O'Reilly APK files we offer in our EBOOK bundles to their Android phones. There are several installation methods to choose from, ranging from using the Android SDK, to employing a third-party file manager, or utiliziing an online dropbox. Here are some excellent resources I've found on the Web for each of these methods:
Use the Android SDK If you're comfortable working on the command line, it's not difficult to load APKs to your phone using the Android SDK. The exact process differs slightly, depending on whether you've got a Windows or Mac/Linux machine. AndroidKit.com has comprehensive instructions for both platforms for Android phones: http://www.androidki...droid-g1-device (Note that these instructions were written specifically for G1 phones, and the installation process may vary a bit for other Android devices) Use the ASTRO File Manager There are many third-party file manager applications that will allow you to load APK files to your Android phone. ASTRO File Manager is a popular choice, and is available for download here: http://www.appbrain....om.metago.astro Once you've got ASTRO File Manger installed on your phone, follow these excellent instructions by Abhiroop Basu for loading the APK (see "1. Installing app Using The Conventional Method"): http://maketecheasie...rket/2011/01/28 Note: In order to access the contents of your SD card via ASTRO File Manager, make sure you first unmount your SD card from your computer and disconnect the USB cable. Use Dropbox If you're interested in storing your APKs in the cloud so you can easily sync them to multiple devices, you may want to check out Dropbox. Dropbox is available for download from the Android Market here: https://market.andro...e=search_result Once you've got Dropbox installed, loading APKs to your phone is fairly straightforward. Step-by-step instructions can be found here: http://www.droid-lif...-using-dropbox/ Can I just read the EPUB on my Android phone instead? Yes, if you've got the Aldiko book reader installed on your Android phone, you can load O'Reilly EPUBs directly to the reader. Full instructions can be found here: http://answers.oreil...android-device/ DISCLAIMER: O'Reilly is unable to provide customer service assistance for APK installation. For Android technical support, please contact your cell phone manufacturer. 0 Replies |
