Hey guys!

First time posting here but i thought i would ask the pros.

I recently came back from a conference which i took a load of important videos and photos at. When i came back home i tried to import the photos and videos onto my computer so i could use them for work.

Itunes said i needed to update my iphone, so naturally i hit yes. After updating itunes said that the phone had an error and it had to be restored. So with out having any other options because the phone wouldnt seem to work i hit yes.

Everything was wiped!?
Ive looked in the itunes back up folder and can not see any of the recent photos, videos from the conference not to mention all my business contacts and notes..

The question im asking is - Is there a way to recovery data from an iphone 4 after it has been deleted.

I havnt sleept for days because ive been doing a bit of research..
Heres some info i found

"Now you are probably wondering how its possible to retrieve photos off your iPhone that you've already deleted. Well to give you a quick answer, your iPhones hard drive is very similar to a computer's hard drive. And just like a normal hard drive the iPhone doesn't delete media or pictures off its hard drive permanently, instead when a file is deleted its space is just listed as available and new re-usable space."

Ive tried the program which is mentioned on the above web site but it doesnt even pick up the iphone when it is plugged into the computer.

So my question to everyone is, is there a way i can forensic recover the data as it sounds like it is still on there but just "hidden"

Also my iphone is displaying 14gig of data used when i plug it into the computer but i cant seem to find where this 14gig of data is on my iphone which makes me think it has been moved/hidden to another location on the harddrive of my iphone.

IMPORTANT: you should be talking to Apple or a data recovery specialist.

If the os on your phone is intact and just in recovery mode (DFU) then there are utilities available to break out and it MAY be accessible. Here is a link to someone who documented getting out of DFU.

Proceed at your own risk, I still will reccomend talking to Apple or a specialist. What is above is the only thing I can think of.

Recovery of wiped iPhone data is possible only from backup created by you. if you have created iPhone backup and at any point of time deleted any iphone data then you can restore it back with the help of the backup you have but if you have no backup then you are not able to recover it, hence use any professional third party software and use it to create iPhone backup (http://www.iphonebackupsoftware.org)

You are out of luck. iTunes does not create a backup of your photos or videos automatically.

Going forward I suggest you use one of the following options to keep backups of your photos and videos:
  • A) Setup an iCloud account and backup all those items in there. You get 5GB for free, so make sure you also back up the files to a computer if you don't want to buy additional storage because 5GB will fill up rather quickly.
  • B) Do a computer backup regularly. You can use any photo editing tool (iPhoto, Adobe Bridge, Elements) to get those files from your iPhone to any folder of your own designation.

I don't own an iPhone anymore but my wife does and she is using option A.

Alejandro, in fact, the iOS backup which iTunes creates during each sync would include the photos from the Camera Roll - i.e. the ones made from within the iPhone.

Albeit, photos from other photo albums are not among the recovered, indeed. But these, you can restore by re-syncing your iPhone with the photo folders on your PC you used to sync with before (via iTunes).
