How do I split where my iTunes media files are stored

I've got my iTunes library on my iMac in standard location in my home directory. When you add movies to iTunes it places them in {itunes library}/movies/. So all movies are in this "movies" directory.

What I want to do, and this is because of disk management, is have all my movies stored on a separate "media" drive. So I dropped down to the shell and created a symlink that redirects that movie folder to another drive.

When I go to add a movie in iTunes it won't allow it or traverse that link. Is there something I'm missing here?

Still stuck on this one and haven't found a way around it. Looks like I need to invest in two large external drives (1-2 TB) and move my entire library there. One drive for the data, the other drive for a Time Machine backup. Hey, someone just pulled another $150 out of my pocket!
