iPad texting question

Hello everyone, just purchased a new iPad and wanted to know if an app exists that allows you to send text/SMS messages from your iPad using your mobile (tmobile) number. I cannot seem to find anything and really do not want to use those apps that require you to use a new number and "invite" your friends to download that app as well.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

The short answer is no. All those so called texting apps in the AppStore sucked. For now, here is what is viable for the iPad:

1) You can email a text message to your friends phones but really cannot receive messages back.
2) If you friends are on the latest iphone/ipad then you could use Apple's messages. But the reallity is that most aren't.
3) Keep you phone with you. This is one of the primary reasons I have my iPhone. Easy to keep contacts and stuff in sync and I use it for phone/sms.

Milton, unfortunately there is no way to do that without an app which both you and your friends (recipients) have to install on your iOS devices.

However, apps such as whatsapp, viber, or even skype are popular enough and I guess you would not need to invite your firends as they already have accounts on at least one of these services.

All of the three services allow for using a custom cellphone number (verification required) for sending text messages.
