Hi,
I use the XP Annoyances book and I was wondering if anyone knows any tweaks for a dual-core Intel Pentium® D CPU 3.40 with 4 GB memory. This is my first dual-core and it's not as "zippy' as i thought it would be. I have a Dell Optiplex 745.

Thank you,John

If your computer supports SATA hard drives, I would strongly suggest you consider the following options:

Faster Hard Drive
  • 1) Upgrade to a Solid State Drive (SSD). This will give you the best benefits.
  • 2) Get a small SSD (128GB) and have Windows installed in it, but have a second hard drive to store your files.
  • 3) Get a faster hard drive SATA/PATA/IDE. 7200RPM minimum. You may have a 5400RPM already. An excellent choice is the Seagate Hybrid drive which is part SSD, part optical.

Faster Graphics
I am willing to bet that your computer is using and integrated graphics chip, which may be sharing part of your RAM with the graphics.
  • 1) Get a dedicated card with 512 or 1GB of video memory.
