I attached a bluetooth keyboard to my ipad. It worked. Now I want to attach it to my husband's and it just keeps searching. Do I have to disable it from mine or something before his ipad will recognize it?

When you "attached" the keyboard to your iPad you did what they call "pairing". My Apple BT keyboard and mouse are aware of what they are paired with, as well as my Mac. That is to say, my keyboard knows what machine it is connected with and won't be available to other computers. In fact, there is a specific process to power on the Apple BT Keyboard and make it break its connection with the computer/iPad it's paired to.
So to answer your question, probably not. Get another KB for the other system.
