How does someone hack your Twitter account and get access to post from your name?
Recently, someone got access to my Twitter account credentials and in less than 24 hours they sent 211 DMs from my name about their stupid test. The site, I will not provide a link to them, is IQ ME.
How would someone get access to my twitter password, which is strong according to password generator apps. How do I keep this from happening in the future? I lost a bunch of followers due to this stupid challenge on IQ that the slimey folks sent. I have heard this has happened to others too, but how does it happen? 2 Replies
There have been a number of high-profile twitter accounts compromised. They usually end up being either your standard dictionary attack or some form of phishing scam. Your best bet is to use a strong password. Here are a few good suggestions from John Viega's Myths of Security that will help you find a good password.
It does help when the service provider's staff use a strong password, too ;^) Here's an article from January 5th regarding a "serious breach". The only thing you can do besides using a strong password is hope that it doesn't happen to you again.
I strongly suspect this is a variant of the worm that affected Facebook more than a year ago:
http://shiflett.org/...v/facebook-worm The worm is called Koobface, and it works by launching an instance of IE and performing actions as you on popular sites like Facebook and Twitter. The best thing you can do is rid your computer of the worm, change your password, and use a different browser (or a Twitter client) for Twitter. |
