Twitter user @ipaystation asked this question when I tweeted a link to the Verizon vs. ATT 3G coverage map. I don't know the answer, so I thought I'd ask the question here.
If someone knows the answer, could you also explain how the two different approaches work, and what their significance is? Thanks.

Does Verizon still use Circuit Presence Over Packet Data CPOP?1 Reply
Yes. Verizon still uses CPOP. Circuit Presence Over Packet Data (CPOP) is a method to assure that you receive an incoming call when you're using your device to surf the web or another app that uses a data connection. Most of the newer EVDO devices already do this.
