Is Google Chrome faster than Firefox, Safari, Opera, and IE?

I just switched to Google Chrome on my MacBook Pro because I was connecting to an Adobe Connect meeting and Firefox was busy noodling around rather than loading the meeting. I fired up Chrome and connected instantly. I am finding Chrome loads most pages faster, especially if they are graphical [and I load all images]. But I like real numbers ... so does anyone have any benchmarks on which Browser is faster?

It depends on the testing protocol, of which there are m a n y. This article helped me to understand some, but not all, of the factors that go into a valid and robust test.

Anoren provides some benchmarks, which show it's quite fast.

At this point in time, perception of speed is the most important thing. I find the usability shortcuts that Chrome has very intuitive. I like having a single window to enter URLs and searches and have the browser sort it out. It seems very fast out of the gate and has a very short learning curve for those familiar with Safari on the Mac.

For me, it's most definitely faster!

You can check also if you have plugins or extensions activated in FF that slow down navigation (toolbars, status, ...).
