How to sync Zimbra data to Android 2.0 on the Droid but use IMAP for Email

There is a bug with certain versions of Zimbra Collaboration Suite's activesync functionality on Android 2.0. Mail synced in this way only displays the first page or so of each message, and gives no option to view the rest of the message.

This is disappointing because the Calendar and Contacts syncing works just fine.

I thought the way around it would be to set up an IMAP account for email and the Activesync account for Contacts and Calendars like you can do on the iPhone. The Droid gave me an error stating that I could not create two different accounts with the same login credentials.

I got around this by setting up an alias in the user's account in the Zimbra admin console. The alias uses the same password as the actual username to authenticate, but to Android, it appears as if there are two different sets of credentials being used.

Now the user can have working email along with contacts and calendars synced to the phone.

You can also access and sync your Zimbra briefcase files using the SMEStorage Cloud Gateway and the SMEStorage Android App'. Works very nice.
