Shazaam was the first and best-known, but I've heard it's not the best. Any opinions on which of the applications works the best?

Shazam has always worked wonderfully for me and it's hard to beat the price.

I have used Midomi and SongDNA [links to iTunes store] both on my Android devices, and I do notice they have iPhone apps as well. These apps work as well as Shazam, and in fact they both offer different options. Midomi will pick out a song as you sing it... and SongDNA also finds lyrics for you. Both different but interesting apps.

Personally, I like SoundHound the best. It does a great job with the lyrics and seems to identify the songs faster.

When I went to Walnut Creek children's theatre with my family I heard a song from my childhood and I could not remember it`s name so I used Midomi to search for it. I was amazed when this program found the song, guess they have a huge database where you can find practically any song.
