When using the on-screen Motorola Droid keyboard, hold down the period key for two seconds, and a popup screen will appear containing common symbols and punctuation.

This is also true of the .com key, which if held will pop up choices for .net, .org, .edu, and .gov. Similarly, hold down the "i", "e", "a", and "o" keys and you'll have choices for various accented alternatives.
